The acting director of communications of Menzgold Ghana Limited, Nii Armah Amarteifio, has disclosed that the life of the chief executive officer (CEO) of the company, Nana Appiah Mensah, is in danger.

Speaking on Accra FM on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, he explained that for that reason, Mensah’s present whereabouts is currently known to only a few people.

He further stated that Menzgold is a legitimate business registered under the laws of Ghana, and can therefore not be a ponzi scheme as being claimed by some Ghanaians.

His comments follow stories of challenges Menzgold is facing with regard to paying extra values or principal investments of its 1.8 million clients since August 2018.

This comes after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) ordered the company to halt its gold vault market operations due to regulatory infractions.

Since then, Mensah, also known as NAM1, has not been seen in Ghana, and he allegedly only tweets or speaks to his radio station, Zylofon FM, via telephone.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that NAM1 is allegedly in South Africa, after passing through Togo and Nigeria.

Following a demonstration by aggrieved clients of the company in Kumasi on Tuesday, January 8, 2018, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko tweeted: “I understand the owner of Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah, has breached his bail condition and absconded."

The finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, had earlier described customers of Menzgold as greedy, and added that the government will not compensate aggrieved clients of the company.
