- The man shot the wife three times after accusing her of cheating on him
Residents of Kaunda village in Kakamega county are mourning the death of one of them who was shot dead by his husband.
The 28-year-old Christine Maonga, a teacher at Navakholo Secondary School, was brutally killed by her husband Patrick Nyapara, an Administration Police officer.
The two had a long confrontation over cheating claims before the middle-aged law enforcement officer shot the deceased thrice.
According to reports received by TUKO.co.ke, it is alleged that the two had been having marital problems ever since the wife conceived their first child.
"The two have been having problems. They have been fighting a lot to a point where the wife was forced to go to her parent's place. Today was different because it ended with a dead body," one of the neighbors told TUKO.co.ke.
The suspect was said to have been a very quiet man on the fateful day when he proceeded to his house before a fight broke.
"The man was very angry and he kept threatening to kill his wife and their six year old child. Our efforts to intervene were futile. We took away the child and left the two still in a heated confrontation," said the neighbour.
Information gathered by TUKO.co.ke indicated Nyapara had been threatening to kill the deceased for a long time on social media platforms.
The whereabouts of the suspect are still unknown as he went into hiding after committing the heinous crime.
Confirming the incident western region Commissioner Rashid Yakub said they had recovered the firearm.
"The police officer is at large but we shall catch up with him" said Yakub.
The deceased body was ferried to Kakamega County Referral Hospital mortuary.
