Barcelona captain Lionel Messi has urged his new manager Quique Setien to make Argentine prolific goals scorer Sergio Aguero his first signing.

The 61-year-old was named as a replacement for sacked Ernesto Valverde earlier this month in a deal that will expire in the summer of 2022.

Setien takes charge of his first game for the Catalan club this evening when they host Granada at Camp Nou.

And with Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele out injured, the 32-year-old is hoping the club will use the winter transfer window to strengthen their attack.

Aguero is Premier League's fourth all-time goals scorer having beaten Thierry Henry and Frank Lampard's record in his last few games.

He will probably be targeting Andrew Cole (187) and Wayne Rooney (208) goals before leaving the English league anytime soon.

England legend Alan Shearer remains the competition's all-time top scorer with 260 goals credited to him during his reign in the league.

Messi is now hoping his club can sign his countryman to replicate his feat in the Premier League for Barca in the La Liga.

The Blaugrana have not really been consistent this season and a quality addition like Aguero will boost their confidence in front of goal.

However, it is unlikely for Manchester City to allow their all-time top scorer leave without putting up a fight to keep him.

His brace against Crystal palace took his tally in all competition for the Citizens to 251 since he joined them from Atletico Madrid in 2011.

Meanwhile, his current deal expires in the summer of 2021 and it is left to be seen if the club would offer him an extension.
