COVID-19: Senior High Schools that have recorded confirmed cases

In a bid to get final year students it the Senior High Schools, to sit for their final exit examinations, the government thought it wise to reopen to schools to make it possible.

Government was so convinced that it had all the necessary logistics in place to ensure that final year senior high schools who return to school would be safe.

In the past weeks, the narrative has been quite different as day-in-day-out, there have been cases of confirmed cases in different SHS'S across the country.

YEN.com.gh has, however, compiled a list of all the Senior High Schools that have so far recorded confirmed cases of COVID-19.

1. Accra Girls

The 6 initial cases recorded at the Accra Girls SHS affected students in the school, which led to parents trooping the school premises to demand the school authorities to release their awards to them. Out of anxiety, the students decided to demonstrate to register their fears. In a bid to ensure that the virus had not spread, contact tracing of 314 students was carried out only to find out that 55 staff and students had contracted the virus.

2. Archbishop porter girls

At the Archbishop Porter Girls Schools in the Sekondi-Takoradi Municipality in the Western Region, five suspected cases were reported by just one case was confirmed positive

3. Ahantaman Girls SHS

The Ahantaman Girls Schools also in the Sekondi-Takoradi Municipality in the Western Region, five suspected cases were reported by just one case was confirmed positive

4. Ghana Secondary Technical School

Some cases were also recorded in the Ghana Secondary Technical School in the Western Region.

5. Nsein SHS

Nsein Senior High School also had their fair share of cases

6. Mpraeso SHS

The Mpraeso Senior High School in the Eastern Region of Ghana also reportedly recorded 9 confirmed cases

7. Wesley High School

The Wesley High School in Konongo in the Ashanti Region also recorded some cases

8. Mawuli School

The Mawuli School in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region also recorded three cases of coronavirus disease.

9. Bishop Herman

The Bishop Herman Boys School in the Volta Region reportedly had recorded one case

10. Mawuko Girls

At the Mawuko Girls Senior High School in the Volta Region, one case had been recorded on the school premises.

11. Dabala SHS

Three students of the Dabala Senior High School in the Volta Region were also believed to have contracted the virus

12. St. Johns SHS

In the Western Region again, the St John's Senior High School reportedly confirmed some cases.

13. Apam Secondary

Initially, there were reports that the Apam Senior High School in the Central Region had recorded cases. It was later confirmed that some cases were recorded there

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, has indicated that the government will only heed the calls to close down a school if 15% of its population contracts the COVID-19 virus.

In doing some mathematics, he revealed that if a school has 500 students and 35 of them (amounting to 7%) of the total population catch the virus, it would not be necessary.

Okoe Boye added that they would take into consideration two things when deciding to close down a particular school or stop them from writing exams, as well as dealing with the issue separately
