Dismissed former PPA Boss fights back; sues CHRAJ

Former CEO of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) has dragged the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to court.
President Nana Akufo-Addo last month fired Adjenin Boateng Adjei following an explosive investigative piece by journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni.
Boateng Adjei was caught in the expose’ selling contracts to his own companies in a case of conflict of interest which President Akufo-Addo asked CHRAJ to investigate.

The president also referred the corruption aspect of the expose’ to the office of the special prosecutor.
Boateng Adjei was suspended in August 2019, followed by a dismissal in October 2020 when CHRAJ presented its report to the president.
The former CEO of the PPA was found placed himself in several positions of conflict of interest, contravening article 284 of the 1992 Constitution in the process.
Boateng Adjei made GHS14.8million as the CEO of the PPA, selling government contracts through single-sourcing and restrictive tendering.

However, in a suit filed at an Accra High Court, Boateng Adjei sued CHRAJ for unfair treatment during its investigation.
Per the citifmonline report, the suit was file at the court on November 27, 2020. He claimed in his writ the commission violated principles of natural justice, the outlet reported.
“By denying me the opportunity to access, respond and cross-examine statements, witnesses, and evidence that the respondents relied on to arrive at their decision, the [CHRAJ] acted in breach of natural justice and failed to give me a fair hearing,” he said.
