16 people dead after a head on collision of 2 VIP buses at Akyem Asafo

News reaching YEN.com.gh indicates that 16 people have lost their lives in an accident at Akyem Asafo on the Accra-Kumasi highway.

It is reported that several others have sustained various degrees of injuries.

The fatality recorded was from both buses as 13 males and 3 females died on the spot.

The accident occurred around 1:30am on Friday, February 26, after two KIA grand buses collided head on.

The police has however confirmed that the driver of one of the KIA grand buses with registration number GT 5628-18 was one of the casualties recorded.

Those who sustained various degrees of injuries were rushed to the Suhum government hospital .

According to the report from the police, the driver of the KIA grand bus with registration number GT 5628-18 made an unsafe overtaking without looking out for traffic on the other side.

His careless action led him to crash head on with another KIA grand bus with registration number GE 5510-15, killing the driver on the spot.

The bodies of all 16 deceased have been deposited at the Suhum government hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.

In other news, YEN.com.gh earlier reported that three white people believed to be foreigners had died in a fatal accident.

The unfortunate incident occurred on the Cape Coast - Winneba Highway at Gomoa Okyereko in the Central region.

An eyewitness said the three foreigners, a man, and two women were aboard a Toyota Prado with registration GN 3966-17.
