Daniel Popemecas Ochomma: Boy who was considered dumb as a child wins most-intelligent student award

- A gentleman by the name Daniel Popemecas Ochomma has narrated how he was not bright academically as a child but now performs brilliantly

- According to Daniel, he used to be insulted as a 'blockhead' among others but he was recently awarded as the most intelligent male student in his university department

Daniel Popemecas Ochomma, a young man who was described as the dumb one among his siblings when he was growing up has narrated his grass-to-grace story.

In a conversation with YEN.com.gh, Daniel who hails from Nigeria but has schooled in Ghana for some time indicated that he used to suffer from low self-esteem as he was described as a 'blockhead' back then.

I was a child then, approaching the puberty/teenage stage of my life, so it really affected my self-esteem knowing people thought me to be a "blockhead".

However, with hard work and the determination to make himself proud, light started to come to Daniel and he became one of the best students in junior high school.

I took that to the senior level and graduated with same. Everyone applauded and told me I beat their wildest imaginations as they never thought I'd find my footing, talk more of garnering good grades," he added.

To crown it all, Daniel was nominated in Tansian University, located in Anambra, for the most intelligent male award in his department (from 100 - 400 level) and ended up winning it.

Daniel said he shared his story to tell anyone who may be struggling academically that they can actually achieve success if they are determined to.

"You just have to starve your distractions and feed your focus", he said.

In another interesting story, former President John Dramani Mahama's father is called Emmanuel Adama Mahama and he was a minister of state under Ghana's first head of state, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
