There have been several claims made by most people including businessman, Sam Jonah that the Akufo-Addo-led government has adopted the culture of silence

The president on the other hand has refuted claims that his government is overseeing a culture of silence.

Akufo-Addo also challenged claims that press freedom has suffered under his presidency adding that he has nothing to apologise for when it comes to press freedom.

“When it comes to the press, I am certain I have nothing to apologise for with reference to anything I have ever done or said,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo stated that there is no way anyone would ever claim the press has been repressed in his government since he himself believes in the freedom of the press.

“I have been a part of and sometimes led the struggle for individual rights and freedom of the press in this country. I believe in it. It is part of my makeup,” he said.

He however stated that going forward, both the media and the government need to be open to dialogue on issues

In other news, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been conferred with a Doctor of Philisophy degree by the University of Cape Coast.

The event which took place at the New Examination Centre today, May 29, 2021, was to reward him for the several projects in the educational sector, especially the Free SHS program.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of the school, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong said despite the economic hardship, Akufo-Addo still made the Free SHS vision a dream come true.

The VC said people who receive such awards are consistent with global best practices.

One of the boldest decisions taken by His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo as president was to introduce the Free SHS despite the huge financial implications on the economy and uncertainties..," he said.

The conferment of the Doctor of Philosophy degree on President Akufo-Addo, he added automatically makes him (Akufo-Addo) an alumnus of the institute.
