The actor was a principal character in Kae Dabi, one of the best Kumawood movies of all time.

In that movie, Twumasi played a rich man who snatched a poor man's beautiful wife.

He has acted in several other top Kumawood movies of similar quality over the years.

A terrible tragedy, however, afflicted Twumasi's acting career for several years, YEN.com.gh can report.

The actor was hit by a stroke and was bedridden for over four years.

He now has difficulty walking although he can now talk like every normal person.

In a recent interview, he said he had finished bathing and was reaching for phone to pick a call when he realised that he hand was heavy and that he could not move.

He said was rushed to the hospital for treatment only to be told that he was suffering from stroke.

He said the period of his illness was a hard time for him but his family was so supportive, singling out his wife for praise.

Twumasi said he used to cry when the illness began, questioning why God let such a calamity befall him, especially as he was an active Christian who was part of a prayer group and was involved in evangelism.

He said stroke was so terrible that he would not wish it on even his enemies.

"I pray that this illness will not happen to even my enemy because once it comes into your life, everything comes to a standstill...you become a burden.

"And as a human, once you stop being relevant to society, then you better be dead," he said.

He said at a point, he prayed to God to take his life in order to ease the burden on his family.

The actor said what gave him the resolve to live, however, was his three-year-old son who he said would take his hand every morning before going to school and pray for him.

He said he determined not to die and leave his young children without a father.

Twumasi said he was recuperating from the illness and was feeling better.

"I no longer see myself as sick. I ceased to be sick I think in the fourth or third year into my sickness. I resolved that I was no longer going to think about it again. I decided to go out there and be relevant," he said.

He said he had suspended acting but was still involved in directing and movie production.
