The Ghana Education Service (GES) has told newly promoted teachers to disregard any instructions directing them to submit application letters, promotion letters, or supporting documents as part of a salary adjustment process.
Management issued the clarification after receiving complaints from a number of recently promoted teachers who had been told to gather and submit documentation for their salaries to be updated to reflect their new ranks.

According to GES management, the standard procedure has always been that teachers promoted to a new rank are automatically placed on the corresponding salary scale, without any requirement for them to submit personal applications or supporting paperwork.
Management stressed that this practice remains unchanged and that no directive asking teachers to provide such documents is consistent with current policy.
The service urged all affected teachers to ignore the requests entirely, warning that complying with them is unnecessary and not in line with established protocol.
GES Engages Regions and Districts Over Irregular Requests
GES management acknowledged that only a limited number of regions and districts appear to be behind the irregular demands, and said it is actively engaging those areas to address the situation.
Management called on teachers across the country to remain calm while the matter is resolved at the administrative level.
The statement serves as a caution to any officials facilitating such requests, while reassuring teachers that their salary adjustments will proceed through the proper automatic channels once their promotions are confirmed.
When was the promotion portal opened?
The Ghana Education Service (GES) opened the 2026 Teacher Promotion Application Portal, inviting serving teachers and officers to apply for advancement to four senior ranks on August 18.
