The dispute between Akofena and his sister, former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, has played out publicly for weeks, beginning with disagreements over who held the legal authority to organise their father's funeral.

A 10-day High Court injunction was placed on the burial rites on July 29, 2026, after Akofena and other patrilineal family members sought to block Adwoa Safo from proceeding with arrangements.

Akofena on cause of family misunderstandings

He rendered his latest remarks while delivering opening comments ahead of a donation exercise in Essumeja, organised as part of activities commemorating the birthday of the late Apostle Emeritus Dr. Ing. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.

Addressing the congregation, he said:

"I apologise for any wrongdoings or [mistakes] that emanated from the funeral of the late Apostle Kantanka."

He went on to point to inexperience as the underlying cause of the difficulties his family had faced, saying:

"If you have not buried a parent before, it's hard to make the right choices. We're still kids and we're still learning."

The donation exercise itself formed part of a broader outreach effort by the Kristo Asafo Mission, distributing items to residents to mark the late Apostle's birthday.
