Manhyia Official Pulls Jubilee House Into Tensions With Dormaahene: "We Will Advise Ourselves"

The Ahene Nanahene of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Nana Kwame Mensah Bonsu, has called on the presidency to check the Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, over recent comments relating to Asanteman.

Bonsu wants the presidency to caution the Dormaahene to stop what has been called attacks on the Asantehene’s domain.

He remarked:

"I am pleading with the Presidency, and I am pleading with Julius Debrah to tell the President that if Dormaahene doesn't take care and misbehaves again, we will advise ourselves. Julius Debrah, I am pleading with you. This is Kwame Bonsu speaking.”

Bonsu’s comments came during an interview on Adum TV on August 24.

He warned further that if the comments from the Dormaahene continued, Asanteman may be compelled to take action.

"I have asked the government to advise him so that we never again hear such remarks from Dormaahene, else we will also advise ourselves."

He further stressed that peace would only prevail between the Asantes and the Dormaahene if he apologises to the Asantehene.

This comes after the Dormaahene sparked controversy with his recent comments about the origins of the Asante Golden Stool, popularly known as the Sika Dwa Kofi.

The Golden Stool, a sacred symbol of the Ashanti kingdom, is historically said to have been commanded from the sky by Okomfo Anokye, the first priest of the Ashanti Kingdom, on a Friday night in 1700, and placed on the lap of the first Asante king, Nana Osei Tutu I.

However, according to the Dormaahene, who is the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Council, the claim that the Golden Stool descended from the sky is false.

Speaking at the launch of the Bonokyempem Council, the Dormaahene pointed to the recent public appearance of the Sika Dwa Kofi during Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II's Silver Jubilee celebration and suggested that the stool's design indicates it was welded, rather than divinely summoned.

Subtle criticism of the Asanthene by Dormaahene

Meanwhile, during a March event to address matters concerning him, Dormaahene seemingly criticised the Asantehene. He touched on issues like illegal mining, alleging that he knew some chiefs who engaged in the act.

The Dormaahene also touched on chieftaincy issues, the Asantehene's decision to elevate some stools under his jurisdiction, and his comments on the free SHS policy, and the case involving Kofi Adoma Nwanwani.

The comments did not sit well with some Ghanaians, including the young lady who accused Nana Agyemang Babu II of trying to disunite Ghanaians with his remarks, especially the people of Bono, Ahafo and its surroundings.

Dormaahene prevented from attending Berekumhene's funeral

YEN.com.gh also reported on past tensions relating to Dormaahene and Asantehene after the former was prevented from attending the final funeral rites of the late paramount chief of Berekum in 2023.

The Sunyani High Court had issued an injunction preventing him from participating in the burial rites of the late Daasebre Dr Amankona Diawuo II, following concerns about his clashes with the Asante monarch.
