George Weah Visits Igbo King in Ghana to Show Solidarity Amid Recent Brouhaha, Video Goes Viral

It was a beautiful display of culture and tradition when the former Liberian President George Oppong Weah visited the Igbo King in Ghana, Eze Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, at his palace in Accra.

A video, which has since gone viral and was posted on the page of @ezeigbo.ghana.tv, showed the Igbo King seated on his throne as the former President of Liberia sat next to him.

In accordance with Igbo custom, an elder at the palace of the self-styled monarch welcomed George Oppong Weah.

Eze Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu also expressed delight to receive the former footballer as his guest, as he then prayed for him and presented him with kola to send back home.

In a show of appreciation, George Weah, who was all smiles, expressed delight over his decision to visit the Igbo King.

He then went on to perform a rite at the palace, as proof that he values and respects the Igbo culture.

His act pleased Eze Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu and his elders at the palace, who applauded the 1995 Ballon d'Or winner and smiled.

At the time of writing this report, the TikTok video, which is included below, had generated over 3,000 likes and more than 100 comments.

Igbo King speaks on Asantehemaa funeral incident

The Igbo King in Ghana has meanwhile gone public on the incident that ensued during his appearance at the late Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III's final funeral rites at the Manhyia Palace.

Addressing the media on September 20, 2025, the Igbo King in Ghana dismissed claims that he was refused the chance to shake hands with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the solemn ceremony in Kumasi.

Rather, he stated that he was applauded at the event for his show of humility and respect, and for promoting Igbo culture during his past encounters with various monarchs in Ghana.

The Igbo King noted that he and his subjects bowed before Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as per his traditional customs during their visit to the late Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III's final funeral rites.

Ga Mantse halts Igbo King's festival celebrations

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that plans by the Igbo King in Ghana to celebrate the Yam Festival with his people in Accra on September 21, 2025, had been suspended.

This comes after the Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, warned that their celebration could pose security risks in the capital city and called for the police to intervene.
