The United Arab Emirates has established a minimum monthly wage that applies to workers across all nine of its officially recognised professional categories, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has confirmed.
The ministry groups workers according to the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO), a framework developed by the International Labour Organisation, which forms the basis for how employment and remuneration standards are applied across the country.

UAE's nine official worker categories
MoHRE confirmed the structure in a public statement, noting that workers are classified "into 9 professional levels according to the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO) issued by the International Labour Organization."
The nine categories span the full breadth of the labour market.
At the upper end sit legislators, managers and business executives, followed by professionals in scientific, technical and human fields, and technicians working across those same disciplines.
The classification also covers writing professionals, service and sales workers, and skilled workers in agriculture, fisheries and animal husbandry.
Craftsmen in construction, mining and related trades form a separate category, alongside operators and assemblers of machinery and equipment. The ninth and final level covers workers in simple professions.
The framework draws on internationally recognised occupational standards, positioning the UAE's workforce categorisation within a globally comparable structure.
Minimum monthly pay for all workers
Regardless of which professional level a worker falls under, MoHRE has set a minimum monthly salary of AED 4,000. The requirement applies to workers employed in the UAE as well as those sending remittances to their home countries.
The figure functions as the lowest permissible pay that employers operating under the ministry's jurisdiction must provide, offering a financial baseline for workers across every occupational category the classification system covers.
