A 101-year-old great-grandmother is at the centre of a arrest after operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) picked her up in Ilisan, Ogun State, for allegedly peddling an illegal substance.

The arrest took place on August 15, 2026, and gained wider public attention through an Instagram post shared by Channels Television on August 23, 2026.

According to the NDLEA, officers recovered 90 grammes of skunk, a potent strain of an illegal substance, from the centenarian.

Why elderly woman turned to illegal trade

During questioning, the 101-year-old told investigators that she had been selling the illegal substance in small quantities.

She explained that a fire had destroyed her provisions shop, leaving her without any legitimate source of income and pushing her into the illicit trade as a means of survival.
