Residents of Sikaman-Brofoyedru who assisted in rescue operations following the August 6, 2025 military helicopter crash have raised alarm over unfulfilled government commitments, a full year after the disaster claimed eight lives.
Gideon Oduro, one of the community youth who was promised a recruitment opportunity in recognition of his efforts, voiced his frustration in an interview with Channel One TV.
He called on President John Dramani Mahama and National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia to make good on the assurances extended to community members in the aftermath of the crash.

Oduro described how local youth navigated dense forest terrain in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region to locate victims and recover wreckage from the crash site.
Despite their contribution to the national search effort, he said those pledges of employment have not materialised in the year since.
His appeal reflects a broader sense of disappointment among residents who risked considerable effort to support what was one of Ghana's most devastating aviation tragedies in recent memory.

What happened on August 6, 2025?
The crash involved a Ghana Air Force Harbin Z-9EH utility helicopter bearing tail number GHF 631, which was travelling from Accra to Obuasi in connection with an anti-illegal mining programme.
Severe weather conditions, including an atmospheric downdraft, caused the aircraft to go down over dense forest in the Adansi Akrofuom District.
All eight people on board perished. The victims were:
- Dr Edward Omane Boamah - Minister for Defence
- Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed - Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation
- Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed - Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
- Dr Samuel Sarpong - National Vice Chairman of the NDC and former Ashanti Regional Minister
- Mr Samuel Aboagye - National Vice Chairman of the NDC and former legislator
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala - Flight captain
- Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu - Co-pilot
- Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah - Crew member
The scale of the tragedy prompted an outpouring of national grief and prompted government officials to engage with affected communities, including the residents of Sikaman-Brofoyedru whose assistance proved vital in the immediate aftermath.
One year on, those same residents say the recognition they were promised remains outstanding.
Samuel Aboagye's baby DNA saga ends
Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported that Nana Kwabena Gyamera Oyiakwan II had announced that he was abandoning the DNA case involving his late brother Samuel Aboagye’s infant daughter.
The Ghana Air Force helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, claimed the lives of eight people, including Mr Aboagye, a senior NDC official.
Mr Aboagye’s widow, Abigail Salami, had remained in the United States and had not provided DNA samples for the infant’s paternity test.
