Their absence was felt in last weekend’s 3-0 derby defeat to Manchester City, where United looked short of attacking invention.
The Red Devils’ season has already taken a troubling turn. An early Carabao Cup exit at the hands of League Two side Grimsby and just four points from four league matches have left them sitting 14th in the table, according to the Premier League.
Pressure mounts on Amorim at Old Trafford
Amorim’s struggles have inevitably placed him under heavy scrutiny. According to The Guardian, the Portuguese coach has already had conversations with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
The influential United figure visited Carrington earlier this week alongside chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox.
According to the source, Amorim described the meeting as routine, focused on reviewing performance data and reinforcing the long-term nature of the club’s project.
He admitted that outside perception is naturally different when results are poor, but insisted there remains internal support for his leadership.
Despite the mounting pressure, the former Sporting CP manager remains positive about his team’s performances.
He believes United are showing improvement in their general play compared to last season, particularly in transitions and overall control of matches.

Cunha, Mount return to face Garnacho's Chelsea
Meanwhile, the upcoming clash with Chelsea carries added narrative as Alejandro Garnacho prepares for his first return to Old Trafford since a controversial £40 million move to Stamford Bridge.
The Argentine forward, once seen as one of United’s brightest academy graduates, left on sour terms with both the manager and supporters.
Amorim, however, refused to dwell on Garnacho’s departure, insisting his focus is on the players available to him, particularly the returning Mount and Cunha, who he hopes can help inject much-needed quality into United’s forward line.
With just two wins in their last ten league matches stretching back to last season, the Red Devils are desperate to find momentum.
Man United eliminated by Grimsby in Carabo Cup

The upset saw Grimsby progress at United’s expense, with fans and pundits questioning his tactics, team selection, and inability to inspire a group of players who were more superior in terms of quality.
