Car Mechanic Shares Simple Checks That Could Cut Your Fuel Cost Instantly

  • Auto mechanic, Promechanic explained that a bad or dirty oxygen sensor can quietly make a car burn more fuel than necessary without many drivers noticing it early
  • He also warned that old coolant can affect engine temperature, force the engine to work harder, and eventually lead to higher fuel consumption
  • The TikTok mechanic added that worn spark plugs, low tyre pressure, and poor suspension condition can all contribute to fuel wastage on the road

A car mechanic on TikTok known as Promechanic has shared practical tips for drivers to reduce fuel consumption without spending heavily on repairs.

His advice focused on simple maintenance checks that many car owners overlook, yet they play a big role in how much fuel a vehicle uses daily.

Promechanic explained the fuel consumption reasons

According to him, one of the key things to check is the oxygen sensor.

This small component measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust system and helps the engine adjust how much fuel it burns.

When the sensor becomes dirty or faulty, the engine loses that balance and starts consuming more fuel than needed.

He explained that cleaning or replacing it can quickly improve fuel efficiency.

He also pointed out the importance of coolant. Many drivers ignore it until there is a problem, but old or dirty coolant can affect how the engine regulates temperature.

When the engine runs hotter than normal, it struggles and burns more fuel. Regularly changing the coolant helps the engine run smoothly and reduces unnecessary fuel consumption.

Spark plugs were another area he highlighted.

He explained that worn-out spark plugs fail to ignite fuel properly, leading to incomplete combustion.

This not only wastes fuel but also affects engine performance. Replacing spark plugs at the right time ensures the engine burns fuel efficiently and performs better.

Tyres and suspension were not left out. Promechanic noted that under-inflated tyres increase resistance on the road, forcing the engine to work harder.

This added effort translates into higher fuel usage. Keeping tyres properly inflated helps reduce that resistance and improves mileage.

Promechanic added that worn suspension can also affect how the car moves, indirectly impacting fuel consumption.

He concluded that these small maintenance habits can make a noticeable difference.
