A heartbreaking final video of Portuguese footballer Quevin Castro has emerged just six days after he celebrated his 25th birthday, leaving football fans deeply moved by his final message of positivity.

Castro died after collapsing during a training match between Real Sport Clube and Estrela de Amadora in Portugal.

His sudden passing has sparked an outpouring of grief, with supporters now looking back at the young midfielder's final moments with fresh emotion.

Quevin Castro's final message before his death

In the video, recorded on August 16, Castro appeared cheerful as he went for a run to celebrate his birthday.

Speaking directly to the camera, he encouraged others to embrace life and pursue what makes them happy.

"Today is my birthday. I am celebrating it by going on a run, doing what makes me happy. Do what makes you happy; live your life to your best. Don't be afraid to be different," he said.

The message has taken on a heartbreaking meaning following his death.

Castro reportedly felt unwell before collapsing during the match. Medical staff used a defibrillator before he was taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Who is Quevin Castro?

Born in Lisbon, Castro came through the Sporting CP academy before moving to England at 16.

He later played for clubs including Cambridge City, York City and Notts County before joining West Bromwich Albion.

He made his senior debut against Arsenal in the 2021 Carabao Cup and later returned to Portugal, where he continued his career.

West Brom announced plans to honour him during their fixture against Burnley, with players wearing black armbands and supporters observing applause in the 25th minute – a poignant tribute to his age.

Across his professional career, he made 78 appearances, scoring 13 goals and registering two assists, according to Transfermarkt.

Footballer dies hours before first training session

In a previous sombre publication, YEN.com.gh reported that a 30-year-old Italian footballer had died after collapsing at home in front of his mother.

The player was due to attend his first training session with his new club just hours later.
