Quevin Castro has died at the age of 25 after collapsing during a friendly match between Real Sport Clube and Estrela da Amadora.

The midfielder was representing Real Sport Clube when he suddenly collapsed, sending shockwaves through both clubs and the wider football community.

Real Sport Clube later confirmed the tragic news while paying tribute to the young player.

"We extend our most sincere condolences to his family, friends, team-mates, and staff," the club said in a statement.

Estrela da Amadora, who were involved in the fixture, also expressed their sadness following Castro's death.

Quevin Castro's football career in retrospect

According to BBC Sport, Castro began his professional career in England with West Bromwich Albion, joining the Championship club as a teenager in 2021.

He progressed into the senior setup and made his first-team debut against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup before making his league debut in February 2022.

The midfielder later gained experience through loan spells at Burton Albion, Notts County, and Gateshead before leaving West Brom permanently in 2023.

He went on to play for several English clubs, including York City, King's Lynn, Chippenham, Cambridge City, and Eastbourne, before returning to Portugal to continue his career.

West Brom confirmed his passing and described it as an untimely loss on the club's website.

The club will honour Castro during their upcoming game against Burnley on Sunday, August 25, with players expected to wear black armbands and supporters observing a round of applause in the 25th minute – a tribute to his age.

Football community mourns Castro

News of Castro's death sparked an outpouring of grief, particularly among those who knew him during his time in English football.

Young footballer dies in tragic hotel fall

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that a 20-year-old footballer has died after falling from a hotel roof while attending a major youth tournament.
