Kenya Plane Crash: Tourists, Pilot Flying From Beach Resort Die in Tragic Incident

A plane crash near Kenya's coast has killed 10 Europeans and a local pilot.

The aircraft was flying from the popular beach resort of Diani to an airstrip in the Maasai Mara game park.

BBC reported that the plane went down at 05:30 am local time.

The aircraft burst into flames, leaving charred wreckage, according to reports.

AP reported that witnesses said they heard a loud bang and found unrecognisable human remains at the scene.

Mombasa Air Safari said the plane was carrying eight Hungarians, two Germans and one Kenyan crew. They are persons confirmed to have been killed in the crash.

Following the crash, Mombasa Air Safari said its primary focus right now is to provide all possible support to the families affected by the tragic incident.

Local media have published images of the plane in flames, with debris scattered at the site of the crash.

Kwale County Commissioner Stephen Orinde told the BBC that the plane crashed about 10km from Kwale town after flying out of Diani.

It was on its way to Kichwa Tembo, an airstrip in Maasai Mara.

He added that investigations into the cause of the crash were being hampered by bad weather.

"The weather is not very good here at the moment. Since early in the morning, it has been raining, and it is very misty, but we cannot preempt [the findings]."

Previous plane crashes in Kenya

In August, the charity AMREF's Flying Doctors plane crashed into a building, leading to six deaths and injuring two others.

The charity organisation's aircraft reportedly exploded on impact, engulfing parts of the area in flames and heavy smoke.

In videos on social media, eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as people screamed and rushed to salvage belongings from homes struck by the wreckage.

A large crowd quickly gathered at the accident site, many watching in disbelief at the aftermath of the fatal incident.

The victims included two doctors, two nurses, and residents who were caught in the wake of the plane crash while on the ground.

MP files RTI request for update on helicopter crash

YEN.com.gh reported that the Tolon MP and First Deputy Minority Whip, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, filed an RTI request for an update on investigations into the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash that killed eight people.

Iddrisu is concerned that there has been no update since a committee was set up to probe the crash in the same month.

The August 6 helicopter crash killed eight people, including two ministers.

Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed were among the fatalities when the helicopter they were travelling in went down in the Adansi Akrofuom district.
