Meet O.K.A.T, Ghana's young but talented graphic designer

Ghana boasts of many up and coming talents who are proving that they are carving a name for themselves by exhibiting their many rare talents and gifts.

YEN.com.gh has received a story of a young man who is slowly growing to become one of Ghana's biggest and talented graphic designers to grace the continent.

Kwame Amankwa Afrifa, popularly known as Okat, has started making a name for himself in the world of virtual art and has self-taught himself to be become good at graphic designing.

Okatakyie, from which he came to be known as Okat but has got its own meaning. The 'OKAT' stands for Okatakyie Kwame Afrifa Talented; a name he coined for himself due to his talented nature.

The 18-year-old graphic designer was born at Opon-Valley in the Western Region of Ghana.

When he turned 11-years-old, he relocated to Dunkwa-On-Offin in the Central Region of Ghana where he had his basic education. He eventually graduated from the Wasa Saa D/A J.H.S 'A' in 2015.

Due to his interest in art, Okat chose to offer Visual Art in S.H.S. However due to his brilliance at school, the Assistant Headmaster advised him to rather pursue a course in General. Science.

Considering his passion for arts, he decided to go against the wishes of his Assistant Headmaster and pursued the arts course.

He was mostly interested in Graphic Design therefore decided to channel all his attention in that direction.

After his SHS education which was dominated by theory, he took his time to painstakingly advance his knowledge in the field through constant practice and well-informed research.

As a result, he has become conversant in the field and can create many designs using Corel Draw program which he was not taught in school.

As part of his personal studies after school, Okat has been able to master the art of paper crafting.

As part of his many creations include popup card, a paper flower, a briefcase, a miniature BMW car which is able to move by the use of a mobile phone's battery.

It is young Okat's dream to become a cartoonist and also boast of many designs and cartoons with the help of Photoshop and Corel Draw.

He has already created a cartoon of himself which he has titled, 'I am proud to be an artist'

The cartoon depicts a man in suit holding a brush and a palette with joy. Another one of his creations caption "OKATOONZ" depicts a man holding a brush and a folded paper.

As part of his West African Certificate Examanination (WASSCE 2018) project work, he designed a side-by-side photo frame with natural leather.

During his time as a student of Boa Amponsem Snr High School, all his outfits were customized with his name.
