Mahama appointed me but I'm aware he is incompetent – Former Ambassador

- A top member of the NDC has branded former President John Mahama as 'super incompetent'

- Ambassador Daniel Osei believes NDC will lose 2020 election if Mahama becomes party flagbearer

A former Ghanaian ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Daniel Osei, is cautioning members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), against electing former President John Mahama as the party’s new flagbearer.

According to Ambassador Osei, John Dramani Mahama still has the corruption tag over his neck like an albatross.

Speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM, Ambassador Daniel Osei revealed that although Jonn Mahama appointed him during his administration, he is fully aware he is incompetent to run the affairs of the country.

“Mahama appointed me but I know he is incompetent; the NDC will be doomed if we make him flagbearer,” he jabbed in a media interview on Friday.

Even before the former NDC leader could declares his intention to contest the flagbearership race of the NDC into the 2020 election, there is a grand swell of endorsements from top party members for his candidature.

Some Minority Members of Parliament are reportedly collating signatures and even contributing money to support former President Mahama’s campaign.

The Minority MPs, led by Dr Clement Apaak and Abu Jinapor are convinced the NDC can wrestle power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), if John Mahama is made flagbearer.

But Ambassador Daniel Osei vehemently disagrees, insisting that it will rather be a recipe for disaster for the NDC.

To him, the former President who described himself as a “dead goat” does not inspire confidence from the rank and files of the party.

The former Dubai Consul General said he was not surprised about the supposed endorsement, since it has been the status quo.

“We’ve seen this movie before. Leading up to the 2016 elections, chant of ‘Mahama has won already’ made the party, and in particular the campaign organizers and engineers, oblivious to the real situation on the ground”, he stated.

Ambassador Osei maintained that the former President gave the NDC the worst margin of defeat in their history as a party and country in 2016 general elections.

He is calling for a new paradigm shift in the NDC if the party is serious about winning the 2020 elections.

“I’m making all these noises because I know we will lose if Mahama is made flagbearer. Ghanaians are ready for real change so this is a golden opportunity for us all to take off our partisan huts and put Ghana first,” he added.
