Deputy NHIA boss attacked by armed robbers in his residence

The Deputy Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority in charge of Finance and Investment, Francis Owusu, was on Monday, January 7, attacked at dawn by suspected armed robbers at his East Legon residence.

According to the Greater Accra regional police command, the five armed men made away with an unspecified amount of money and other valuables and left their victim with cutlass wounds.

Owusu is currently on admission at a hospital in Accra receiving treatment.

The Greater Accra Police PRO, DSP Afia Tenge, who confirmed the incident said the case was being investigated according to procedure.

She stated that the victim was recovering from the wounds that were inflicted on him by the armed robbers.

"The crime scene management team from the National CID has visited and processed the scene and currently, it is receiving the needed investigation attention that it needs. He received some cutlass wounds and he is receiving treatment. He is recovering," DSP Tenge noted.

Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh earlier reported that a Manager of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Joseph Miigaai Jakperuk, had been shot dead by unknown assailants at Gbangu in the East Mamprusi District of the Northern Region.

Joseph Miigaai Jakperuk, who was the Deputy Distribution Manager of Accra East Region of GWCL was traveling to his hometown in the Bunkpurugu District when he was stopped by the hoodlums in the night.

According to a report sighted by YEN.com.gh on Mynewsgh.com, the unknown assailants, after barricading the road with pieces of wood, pulled Jakperuk out of his cross country vehicle and shot him to death.
