KNUST lecturer drops hint about fake PHD holders teaching in universities

- A KNUST lecturer, Dr. Kwesi Amakye Boateng, has revealed that some lecturers have fake PHDs

- He added that some of them know very little about their area of specialization

- According to him, some of the lecturers use the academic qualifications of others

A lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST), Dr. Kwesi Amakye Boateng, has claimed that some university lecturers have fake Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees.

According to a report by Mynewsgh.com, he indicated that the said lecturers have little or no knowledge in the courses they teach.

In his opinion, the processes through which some of them acquire their qualifications are questionable, and as such, investigations should be conducted as a matter of urgency.

“I have seen some lecturers using fake certificates. Fake certificates, not because they were forged, but these were certificates acquired through the toil of others and are now being used by others to teach.

I once interacted with one of such lecturers in a university. I am not prepared to name him, but I realized he had little or no knowledge on what he lectures”, he said.

Dr. Boateng further noted that an average third year political science student is far better than the lecturer who claims to have received his PHD from the United States of America (USA), where the process is rigorous.

In his opinion, PHD holders such as Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom of Groupe Nduom prove that the fake PHD holders leave much to be desired.

A recent audit of the technical universities conducted by the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) revealed some discrepancies in the qualifications of some university lecturers in the country.

Some of them, it is gathered, have been teaching without relevant background, with some holding Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees acquired through online schools, which is against the regulations of Ghana.
