SONA 2019: Akufo-Addo and Rawlings' friendly photo is just beautiful

It is no secret that President Nana Akufo-Addo and former president Jerry John Rawlings have grown unusually close in the past few years.

Coming from different political backgrounds and idealogies, the two were the most unlikely of political friends one would have ordinarily envisaged.

The friendship started somewhere in 2016 when Akufo-Addo was campaigning for the presidency as NPP's candidate.

For most political watchers, Rawlings' warmness towards Akufo-Addo was quite surprising because he had been very critical of all other Ghanaian leaders since he left office in 2001.

His successor in 2001, John Agyekum Kufuor endured a lot of criticisms and continues to endure from the Rawlings. He has also had issues with the late President Atta Mills and former President John Mahama even though there were from his own NDC party.

But unlike his predecessors, Akufo-Addo has been left off Rawlings hook and has even been showered with praises.

Well, the brotherly love between Akufo-Addo and Rawlings continued unabated when the president delivered the 2019 State of Nation Address on Thursday, February 21, 2019.

In a photo sighted by YEN.com.gh, the two were spotted sitting and having a friendly chat after Akufo-Addo finished his third SONA at the Parliament House in Accra.

From the look of things, Rawlings seemed to be telling Akufo-Addo something important and the president was listening with rapt attention.

Clearly, the friendship between the two keeps growing and it is definitely here to stay, though it may not be too pleasing for many NDC supporters.
