National security officials arrest ModernGhana editors after raiding office

Three editors of ModernGhana, an online news agency, have been arrested after national security officials raided their office.

YEN.com.gh understands that an editor of the website said the workers were picked up on Thursday, June 27, 2019.

According to the Editor-in-Chief of ModernGhana, William Nana Beeko, the raid took place after the website posted a news item about the national security minister, Albert Kan Dapaah, and a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Effutu constituency, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

Per a report by Starrfm.com.gh, laptops belonging to the media outfit were seized and the current location of the editors remain unknown.

“We don’t know where they are now,” Beeko, who is on leave, said.

Information available however shows that a close associate of one of the arrested reports known as Emmanuel Brintwum, stated all efforts to know where exactly they have taken them have proven futile.

He added that all effort to communicate with the editors have failed; Brintwum, meanwhile, managed to inform a friend that he is in the custody of the national security.

The office of the national security is yet to make a statement on the matter.
