- Government recently announced that fuel prices would go up starting August 1

- Due to this a group of women who cry during funerals have announced a hike in their rates as well

- According to one of them, potential patrons are to brace themselves to pay more for their services

Following the increase in fuel prices starting yesterday, August 1, 2019, funeral criers association, have announced that their patrons would be expected to pay more for their services.

According to one the women of the professional criers, potential patrons must be prepared to pay double the GHc2,000 minimum and GHc4,000 maximum advertised for their service.

Justifying the hike in their rate, Ms. Dokli said the high demand for their services, amid an increase in fuel prices and general economic hardship, have pushed them to adjust their fees.

She revealed five dirge-singing criers who used to charge 5,000 Ghana cedis a day would now provide the service for between 7,000 Ghana cedis and 8,000 Ghana cedis.

The upward adjustment follows discussions between her and other professional funeral criers. They took into consideration hikes in prices of petroleum products and transport fares.
