Anthony Elanga and William Osula gave Newcastle United fans something extra to celebrate after combining for the opening goal against Liverpool before paying tribute to Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan.

Elanga and Osula recreate Asamoah Gyan dance

Newcastle caught Liverpool on the counter-attack, with Osula sending Elanga through on goal.

The Swedish winger made no mistake, drilling his finish into the net to put the hosts ahead. But it was their celebration that stole the spotlight.

The two forwards immediately broke into Gyan's famous thumbs-up dance, a celebration that became a viral sensation during Ghana's 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.

Gyan, who attended the tournament as part of a group of former Black Stars players supporting the squad, performed the dance with Fatawu Issahaku inside Ghana's dressing room after the Black Stars defeated Panama in Toronto.

The moment quickly spread across social media, particularly TikTok, and has now found its way to the Premier League.

Ghanaian fans were quick to recognise the tribute during Newcastle's clash with Liverpool.

Unfortunately, their celebration could not culminate in victory as Liverpool levelled Elanga's opener through Cody Gakpo.

According to BBC Sport, substitute Joe Willock restored the lead for the Magpies, but Dominik Szoboszlai scored a last-gasp penalty to ensure the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

William Osula's growing Ghana connection

For Osula, the celebration was another nod to his love for Ghanaian arts and culture.

The Newcastle striker previously performed the viral Kakalika dance after scoring against Bournemouth back in April, blending it with elements of Gyan's trademark moves.

Osula's repeated embrace of Ghanaian culture has made him increasingly popular among supporters in the country, while Elanga's involvement has earned him plenty of admirers too.

Asamoah Gyan speaks on Kakalika dance origins

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Asamoah Gyan has claimed that the viral Kakalika dance originated in Nima, Accra, long before DopeNation’s global hit.

The former Black Stars captain also called for the original dancer to be recognised and compensated.
