The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Freddie Blay, has stated that the attacks being launched on the Electoral Commission by the NDC is not needed.

He described the actions of the NDC as absolutely needless, unconstitutional, and totally misguided.

In a statement issued on, May 28, 2020, Blay has accused the NDC of shifting the focus of the nation from compiling a new voters' register.

“Attacks on the EC is needless and an attempt to subject the EC to the direction of any person or authority is unconstitutional and totally misguided,” he said.

He said those who were against the compilation of the new register using the COVID-19 as an excuse, were doing that based of their own selfish interests.

“Those opposing to the compilation of a new voters’ register, using the COVID-19 deaths and infections are in pursuit of their own self interests,” he stated.

In other news, a Political Science lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, Jonathan Asante Okyere has quizzed the EC on their decision to compile a new voters' register amid the COVID-19 fight.

According to him, he has never in his life seen such an incompetent Electoral Commissioner before.

Speaking in an interview on Onua FM, he described the decision by the EC to use the Ghana Card and passport as the required documents for the registration as “voodoo logic”.
