COVID-19: 9 students at Mpraeso SHS in isolation after suspected infection

- Mpraeso Senior High School in the Kwahu South District of the Eastern Region is the latest school to have been hit by the COVID-19 pandemic

After news of six students in Accra Girls Senior High testing positive, the Mpraeso Senior High School in the Kwahu South District is the latest school to have been hit by the COVID-19 virus.

According to a Citi Newsroom report, nine suspected cases of the virus have been recorded at the school in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

It has not yet been confirmed if the students have tested positive for the novel coronavirus as they are still awaiting the test results.

The Kwahu South Director of Education, Ofosu Kwakye, told Citi Newsroom:

“They have been isolated from the rest of the students and their samples have been taken [as of Tuesday]. All the samples were sent to Accra for confirmation.”

Ofosu Kwakye also stated that careful measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of the rest of the students.

He noted that the isolated students were also getting proper medical attention.

In a related development, the parents of students at Accra Girls Senior High School stormed the campus to take their wards home after coronavirus was detected at the school.

Their actions came after six Accra Girls SHS students were confirmed to have tested positive for COVID-19 and subsequently picked up to isolation facilities.

Some parents who spoke in an interview with TV3 indicated that they could not rest knowing that their wards might be at risk of catching the virus.
