Controversial religious leaders Shepherd and Mary Bushiri have reportedly been taken into custody by authorities in Malawi. A recent report stated that the couple were arrested in their home in after being raided.
The couple allegedly fled South Africa through the Beitbridge border post and warrants for their arrest have been issued. The Gauteng High Court was the latest to have issued arrest warrants for the fugitive couple.
The Bushiris have been charged with fraud and money laundering. They also risk forfeiting their multi-million-rand property if they do not return to SA.

TimesLive confirmed that the Bushiris were arrested in their home as reported by a Malawian publication. News24 confirmed that the Gauteng High Court had issued warrants for the arrests of both Shepherd and Mary.
Earlier, it was reported that the Bushiris had snuck out of South Africa through the Beitbridge border post. According to a report, the controversial religious leaders allegedly paid officials at the post in order to escape.
Media and social media alike have been abuzz since the news emerged that the couple had fled to Malawi. From their bail conditions, the Bushiris risk forfeiting their R5.5m property. They have already forked out a whopping R400 000 as they were released on R200 000 bail each.
It was also reported on a viral clip of Shepherd Bushiri 'preaching' to his congregants. South African musician DJ Shimza shared a very worrying video of controversial religious leader Shepherd Bushiri. In the video, Bushiri calls a lady up and proceeds to ask her if she is working or if she is a student. He then brings her to the front of the congregation.
Once there, he asks for permission to 'enter her house'. Bushiri then proceeds to describe, in detail, what her house looks like from the outside before making his way inside. He begins to describe that she has a four-plate stove and one of the plates does not work. The congregants begin to cheer and scream as Bushiri describes the inside of the unknown woman's refrigerator.
