Jean Mensa is Ghana’s best ever EC chair - Professor Adei
-Jean Mensa has been described as the most competent EC chair in the history of Ghana
- According to Professor Adei, Mensa’s calm demeanour in dealing with false allegations is matchless
- But, John Dramani Mahama disagreed
The former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Professor Stephen Adei, says Jean Mensa’s competence as the chair of the Electoral Commission (EC) is matchless.
According to him, Mensa is the best EC chairperson Ghana has ever had “in terms of competence.”
To justify his claim, Professor Adei, who is also the chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) cited Mensa’s calm demeanour in dealing with “false” assertions from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“From day one, they have always piled up to paint her negative,” he told Accra-based Joy FM on Monday, January 4, 2021.
But, John Dramani Mahama disagreed with Professor Adei. According to the former president, Mensa would be the worst the country has seen following the aftermath of the 2020 general elections declarations.
Akufo-Addo defeated Mahama in the polls, collecting 51.302% of the votes while the latter had 47.359%.
Mahama, however, rejected the outcome, filing a petition at the Supreme Court to challenge it.
Meanwhile, there is no evidence Mahama won the presidential race, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC’s) legal team, Dr. Dominic Ayine, disclosed.

Speaking in an interview with GHone TV on Thursday, December 31, 2020, the former Deputy Justice Minister in the erstwhile Mahama administration said: “We never said that we won the [presidential] election.”
In other news, An Accra Circuit Court has charged the minority leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu, with unlawful assembly for marching to the headquarters of the Electoral Commission (EC).
Iddrisu was charged alongside 19 other National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament (MPs).
Iddrisu on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, led his colleagues to petition the chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa over the parliamentary results of Techimman South seat which was called for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Barred from going beyond a barricade around the Ridge Roundabout, Iddrisu led the opposition MPs to break through the barricade in defiance leading to a serious brawl with security officers manning the EC premises.
The MPs were reportedly physically manhandled by the police for being “obstinate.”
