22,000 Ghanaians to get jobs after Ghana accrued $2.65bn in 2020 – Oppong Nkrumah reveals

The Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has revealed that a total of 27,000 jobs are expected to be generated from 279 projects following the growth in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

According to him, 22,000 of those jobs are expected to be for Ghanaians while about 1,065 are expected to be taken up by expatriates or non-Ghanaians.

In a report filed by 3news, Oppong Nkrumah revealed that Foreign Direct Investment (FDIS) gave Ghana 2.65billion dollars in 2020 despite the challenges the country faced following the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Addressing the media on Sunday, April 18, he attributed this to the Akufo-Addo government for being good managers of the economic space.

“A total estimated investment of about 2.7billion dollars were recorded for the Republic of Ghana. We believe it is because of the gradual improvement we continue to make in the economic space here in Ghana and despite the challenges that we have around in particular the challenges of the year 2020,” he said.

He added, “57 of them in manufacturing, 15 in export trade, and the rest follow from there.”

In other news, the immediate past Member of Parliament for the Ledzokuku constituency, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye who was voted out in the 2020 elections claims he can get back his seat.

According to him, he is confident of taking back the seat from the National Democratic Congress in the 2024 elections.

Dr. Okoe Boye's loss came as a shock to a lot of Ghanaians as he was predicted to be one of the MP's who would retain their seats for the then incumbent New Patriotic Party.

Speaking in an interview on Citi TV, Okoe Boye said his resolve to return to Parliament remains unbroken.

“As a scientist, you are taught to have the mindset of ‘never say never.’ I believe a second term in the constituency is possible, even when people may think it is not,” he said.
