Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has praised Sarah Adwoa Safo, sparking a wave of divided reactions online.

Adwoa Safo, daughter of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, went to visit Bawumia following the funeral, which took place on July 30-31, 2026, at Gomoa Mpota despite a High Court injunction restraining it.

She had proceeded with the burial regardless, keeping her earlier promise that the funeral would go ahead "come what may".

Adwoa Safo was received with fontomfrom drums, cheers, and chants from supporters who hailed her as a "woman king" during her entrance.

Bawumia praises Adwoa Safo's role in funeral

Addressing Adwoa Safo directly during her visit, Bawumia commended her for how the funeral had been carried out. He said:

"I praise you for standing firm and successfully executing the funeral to a good standard. So I thank you all. Without it, a lot of things would have gone wrong. Thank you for we all feel at peace."

He then pointed to Adwoa Safo, referencing the nickname already circulating from the funeral itself, saying she was "the woman king," a remark that drew laughter from those present.
