American actor Andre Braugher has died at the age of 61 after battling a short illness.
Who was Andre Braugher?
The Emmy-winning actor has starred in several movies, including House MD, Kojak, City of Angels and most notably, Brooklyn-Nine-Nine, which undoubtedly gave him worldwide fame.
In the hit comedy series, the black American actor played the upright Captain Raymond Holt role from 2013 to 2021.
Andre's death was disclosed by his publicist, Jennifer Allen, on Tuesday, December 12. However, she did not elaborate on the details surrounding the actor's death apart from the fact that he had been ill before his demise.
Andre is survived by his wife of over 30 years, actress Ami Brabson, and their three sons, Michael, Isaiah and John.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine stars mourn Andre Braugher
Fans and colleagues have taken to social media to mourn the talented actor who spent his last years filming Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Andre's co-star Terry Crews wrote:
"Can’t believe you’re gone so soon. I’m honored to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared 8 glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent. This hurts. You left us too soon. You taught me so much. I will be forever grateful for the experience of knowing you. Thank you for your wisdom, your advice, your kindness and your friendship. Deepest condolences to your wife and family in this difficult time. You showed me what a life well lived looks like. Rest In Peace, Andre. I love you, man."
Joe Lo Trugolio, another actor on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, also expressed his condolences, disclosing that Andre was a great actor and a fantastic singer constantly busting into song on set.
"What an honor to work with a man who knew what it was really all about. I feel blessed and thankful. Miss you Capt Holt. Love, Porkchop," Joe's heartfelt message read in parts.
Actor Joel McKinnon Miller said:
"An actor prepares… Sending love to Andre’s family and friends and all of us who had the honor of working with him. #brooklyn99."
