Dumsor: ECG Shares Areas to Be Hit By Maintenance Power Cuts in Parts of Ghana On August 7

• The Electricity Company of Ghana announced planned maintenance works affecting some parts of the Western Region
• ECG issued a notice on August 6, 2026, saying the exercise is aimed at improving service delivery in affected communities
• Communities in the Greater Accra Region are among the areas listed for power interruptions

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced planned maintenance works in parts of the Western Region that will result in temporary power interruptions on August 7.

The power distributor issued notices on August 6, stating that the exercise is meant to improve its services.

Per the notice on Facebook, power cuts are scheduled to run from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

The affected areas include:

• KNUST
• Kojokrom
• Ahenkofi
• Naval Base
• European Town
• RCC
• Prisons
• Ketan
• Effia Nkwanta Hospital
• Fijai
• Nkroful
• Ntankoful
• Mt. Zion
• Old Soldier
• BU
• Adiembra
• Ekuase
• Nkontompo
• Essikado

Energy Ministry shares plan to address dumsor disruptions

In April, the Ministry of Energy announced an 18-month intervention programme to address the power cuts costing at least GH¢4 billion.

As part of this effort, 11 power station transformers are being installed across the Greater Accra Region, while an additional 30 transformers are expected to be deployed within the same period.

The second phase, expected to run from three to six months, will involve the replacement of about 2,000 deteriorated poles nationwide.

ECG boss issues update on dumsor

YEN.com.gh reported that the Electricity Company of Ghana commented on power supply issues earlier in the year.

Speaking at a press conference on April 20, the company's manager, Kwame Kpekpena, apologised to Ghanaians over the power cuts which are now a weekly occurence.

His apology came at a time of persistent power fluctuations in parts of the country, causing inconvenience and, in some cases, damage to homes and commercial activities.
