Who's woman in Bishop Johanna's video?

The controversial preacher's video went viral, with many calling for his arrest and deregistration of his ministry.

In the video, a woman was seen lying on the ground as Johanna touched her while praying and exorcising an alleged demon.

The woman, who only identified herself as Wanjiru, revealed she went to seek help after her husband left their matrimonial home and started living with another woman.

"Niliamua kutafuta usaidizi wa maombi kutoka kwa mhubiri baada ya kuelezewa kumhusu na rafiki yangu. Rafiki huyo alinishauri niende kwake, kwani alikuwa ameiombea familia yake kuhusu matatizo kadhaa ya kinyumbani waliyokuwa nayo na yakaisha. Hivyo, alinishauri niende kwake, nilipomwelezea changamoto za ndoa nilizokuwa nikipitia (I decided to seek prayer assistance from a preacher after being told about him by my friend. My friend advised me to visit him as he had prayed for his family regarding several domestic issues they were facing and they were resolved. Therefore, he advised me to go to him when I told him about the marriage challenges I was going through)," Wanjiru said during an interview with Kameme FM.

The woman, who is a hawker in Nairobi, travelled with her friend to Nakuru to see Johanna for deliverance. She revealed Johanna asked for KSh 3,000, but he didn't have it.

"Sikuwa na pesa hizo. Rafiki yangu alilipa ada hiyo na akaombewa. Tulirudi Nairobi, huku nikianza kutafuta pesa. Nilifanikiwa kupata KSh2,000. Tuliporudi kwake ili niweze kuombewa, alikubali pesa hizo. Tuliimba nyimbo tano za kumwabudu Mungu, ndipo baadaye akaanza kuniombea (I didn't have that money. My friend paid the fee and was prayed for. We returned to Nairobi, where I started looking for money. I managed to get KSh 2,000. When we went back to her place for me to borrow, she accepted the money. We sang five worship songs to God, and later she started praying for me)," she recalled.

The man of the cloth then embarked on a deliverance session, and Wanjiru claims she was unconscious all through.

“Nilipoteza fahamu nilipoanza kuombewa. Sikujua kile kilichokuwa kikiendelea. Hata hivyo, maombi yalipomalizika, niliona kamera kadhaa ambazo zilikuwa zikinirekodi (I lost consciousness when the prayer started. I didn't know what was happening. However, when the prayer ended, I saw several cameras recording me)," she said.

Upon returning to Nairobi, Wanjiru said she was shocked after a friend informed her that her video with Bishop Johanna was trending.

"Sikujua kuwa wakati wa maombi, nilikuwa nikirekodiwa na kwamba video hiyo hatimaye ingewekwa mtandaoni. Nilipompigia simu mhubiri huyo kuhusu suala hilo, alisema hata yeye hakufahamu kuhusu aliyechukua simu yake na kuanza kurekodi (When I called the preacher about the issue, he said that he also had no idea who took his phone and started recording)," she said.

The soft-spoken mother said she was depressed and contemplated taking her life, but luckily, Good Samaritans offered to help her.

Bishop Johanna defends his actions

Previously, the video sparked outrage on social media, with many condemning the pastor's actions as inappropriate and questioning the legitimacy of such unorthodox practices.

Against the backdrop of the heavy criticism, the preacher came out to defend himself, insisting that every action depicted in the cringe-worthy clip was meant for exorcism purposes.

In an interview with Kururia TV, the pastor insisted he should be allowed to carry out his supposed spiritual activities without criticism online. However, not even his defensive remarks have calmed Kenyans down; many insisted that the inappropriate touching of the woman was absolutely abhorrent.
