President Museveni Gets Emotional As Daughter Is Ordained Bishop, “I’ll Give Patience 50 Cows”

Patience Museveni Rwabwogo, daughter of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, was consecrated as an Episcopal Bishop on Sunday at Covenant Hill in Maya, marking two decades since she founded Covenant Nations Church, where she continues to serve as senior pastor.

American evangelist Bishop Dr LaDonna Osborn officiated the consecration, joined by local and international clergy, while hundreds of worshippers, senior government officials and church leaders gathered to witness the milestone.

During his address, he praised his daughter's commitment and discipline in serving Christ before announcing a gift of 50 cows in her honour.

"I give Patience 50 cows. And the cows are from Mama and from myself. Thank you very much," Museveni said.

He then wrapped up his remarks sooner than expected, explaining that Janet, who is still recuperating from illness, had already been seated for a considerable time.

"I would have said more, but Mama has sat for very long," he noted.

Earlier in his speech, he expressed gratitude for his wife's recovery, acknowledging the medical team and their children Muhoozi, Natasha, Patience and Diana for their care.

"I thank God for Maama's recovery, and I salute the medical staff who supported her, as well as our children who worked alongside them in caring for her. I also thank God for Patience becoming a Bishop," he said.

First Lady Janet Museveni also addressed those gathered, describing her recovery as nothing short of miraculous and singling out 2026 as a year of deep personal significance.

"2026 is forever marked as the year you delivered my life from the very jaws of death. When the enemy came in like a flood, you lifted a standard against him," she told the congregation, attributing her survival to the redemptive work of Jesus Christ.

The sermon was delivered by Nigerian preacher Pastor Enoch Adeboye, whom Patience regards as her spiritual father.

Adeboye challenged the idea that Christian devotion and material prosperity are incompatible, telling worshippers, "You can make it to heaven and still become rich along the way; you do not have to die poor."

"If you want to know the truth about what I have said, ask President Museveni. He does not want Ugandans to remain poor," he added.

The clergyman also used the platform to call on the continent to reduce its reliance on foreign loans, offering a prayer towards that end.
