The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has been reunited with his family in the United States, following his arrival in the country on a two-week visit ahead of the Akwasidae Kese celebration on August 30, 2026, at Bowie State University in Maryland.

Opemsuo Radio, which serves as the official broadcast station and mouthpiece of Manhyia Palace, shared the reunion footage as part of its coverage of the Asantehene's time abroad.
The video, filmed inside a well-appointed residence decorated with African-themed artwork, captured candid and warm exchanges as Otumfuo greeted his wife, Lady Julia Osei Tutu, and children before the group settled into conversation in a formal sitting room.

Otumfuo beamed with excitement as he held his daughter Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem Osei Tutu's hand before formally introducing her to the Ghana ambassador.
The Asantehene's son, Nana Kwame Kyeretwie, who is currently pursuing undergraduate studies in astronomy at Wesleyan University to pursue after graduating from DPS International Ghana in 2025, was also present to welcome his father to the US.
The clip spread rapidly across social media, drawing significant interest from fans and followers of the Asante royal family who were moved by the personal, unguarded nature of the moment.

Otumfuo's US visit ahead of Akwasidae Kese
The Asantehene made the trip to the US as part of a two-week working visit ahead of the Akwasidae Kese celebration scheduled to take place on August 30, 2026, at Bowie State University in Maryland.
The week-long celebration, being organised by the Millennium Excellence Foundation, is themed around culture, leadership, business and heritage.
The grand durbar is one of the most significant occasions on the Asante royal calendar, and Otumfuo's presence in America ahead of the event has drawn considerable attention from Ghanaians both at home and in the diaspora.
Otumfuo to launch Millennium Excellence Week
During the two-week US trip, the Asantehene will also launch MEA America 2026 with the Otumfuo Invitational at Army Navy Country Club, Arlington, Virginia.
The Millennium Excellence Foundation, on Monday, August 24, 2026, will open Millennium Excellence Week 2026 with the MEA Otumfuo Invitational, held in honour of foundation patron His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene.
His Majesty will strike the ceremonial first ball to commence play for a distinguished field of invited participants, setting the stage for a week dedicated to leadership, investment, partnership and cultural celebration.
The Invitational takes place at the Army Navy Country Club, one of Washington’s most historic sporting venues.
Established in 1924, the club has welcomed prominent military leaders and five U.S. Presidents.
It will be together with Africa-focused investors, family office principals, founders, business leaders, diplomatic representatives, sponsors and partners in a setting designed to foster meaningful relationships before the week’s formal events.
