Samuel Kojo Brace: Joy News Presenter Drops Hints of NPP Parliamentary Bid

Samuel Kojo Brace, a broadcast journalist with Joy News and popularly known as Ahanta Pele, has dropped hints about a possible move into mainstream politics ahead of Ghana's 2028 general elections.

The journalist is reportedly considering a bid for the Ahanta West parliamentary seat in the Western Region on the ticket of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Kojo Brace stirred speculation after sharing an artwork on Facebook on Thursday, August 20, 2026, which many social media users interpreted as a campaign poster.

The artwork featured the red, white and blue colours associated with the NPP, prompting questions about whether the television presenter was preparing to contest the party's parliamentary primaries.

NDC communicator asks Kojo Brace to quit journalism

Reacting to the development, Richard Kirk-Mensah, the Western Regional Communications Director of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), said Kojo Brace should step down from his broadcasting role if he had decided to enter mainstream politics.

"Samuel Kojo Brace since you have made a bold decision to do open politics you must vacate your position as a political host," he wrote.

Kojo Brace fuels speculation about Multimedia exit

In response, Kojo Brace appeared to suggest that he may have already left his role at Multimedia Group to pursue his political ambitions.

"Richard Kirk-mensah at least, you know me to be one intelligent young man who knows what time is best to undertake any endeavor.
Before you typed this, I expected you to have paused to ask yourself, could he have done this without leaving? I haven’t seen him on screen this whole week, could it mean he’s left? Senior man, you know me too well. Feel free to join the movement: AHANTA PELE," he replied.

His response has further intensified speculation that the journalist could soon make his political ambitions official.

The Ahanta West constituency is currently represented in Parliament by Mavis Kuukua Bissue of the governing NDC.

Bissue is serving her first term as the constituency's Member of Parliament and is the first woman to represent Ahanta West in Parliament.

Who is Samuel Kojo Brace?

Samuel Kojo Brace is a Ghanaian broadcast journalist, news anchor and assistant editor associated with Multimedia Group.

He is known for his work on Joy News, where he has featured on programmes including the AM Show, Joy News Prime, JoyNews Desk and Top Story.

Kojo Brace attended Baidoo Bonsoe Senior High School, where he obtained his WASSCE certificate in 2005.

He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from the University of Cape Coast in 2012.

Originally from the Ahanta area of the Western Region, the journalist has also been involved in community development and advocacy through the Kojo Brace Initiative, which focuses on issues including fire safety.

He is also known for his work in climate change advocacy and rural development, while pursuing interests as an entrepreneur, public speaker and corporate master of ceremonies.

Captain Smart declares NDC parliamentary bid

Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported earlier that Captain Smart had announced his intention to contest the NDC Gomoa West parliamentary primaries ahead of the 2028 general elections.

He made the declaration during an interview with social media blogger Tina News GH, having previously considered running as an independent candidate.

His entry set up a direct contest against the incumbent MP and Deputy Energy Minister, Richard Gyan-Mensah, of the NDC.
