‘Gun men’ attack Kwahu Atibie palace over chieftaincy dispute

Some heavily-built men wielding guns and other offensive weapons have allegedly stormed Kwahu Atibie palace in the Eastern Region over some chieftaincy dispute.

According to Adomonline.com report, the suspected ‘macho men’ belonging to one of the faction claiming ownership of the stool invaded the palace vandalized some properties worth thousands of cedis.

Reports say the gun men started shooting immediately after storming the Chief’s palace.

Eyewitness say the indiscriminate firing of guns caused fear and panic as some residents especially women and children fled for their lives.

Some other reports say many residents have abandoned their homes for fear of reprisal attacks by another faction.

Meanwhile, ASP Francis Oppong Agyare, the Mpraeso District Police Commander, who confirmed the incident said the attack was due to some chieftaincy dispute in the area.

The Police commander speaking to Accra-based Adom FM, said the other faction who currently occupy the stool is resorting to legal process to get the matter resolved.

ASP Oppong Agyare said the current chief of Atibie now operates from his private residence to prevent any bloody clashes with the other faction.

The police commander said an emergency meeting is being planned to find lasting solution to the chieftaincy dispute.
