Joselyn Dumas finally breaks silence on her struggle with forced marriage

Popular actress and media personality, Joselyn Dumas, has revealed how she was pushed into a forced marriage and how that affected her.

She made this revelation last Saturday on her show ‘Keeping it real with Joselyn Dumas’ where together with three guests, they discussed ‘Social Media’ and marriage’.
Her guests were Ivy Prosper, Christal Beeko and Wendy Donkor.
While underscoring the importance of marriage, the ladies acknowledged also that it can be awful when people are pushed into it without their own will to do so.
According to Joselyn, she was faced with the challenge of forced marriage when her ex-husband’s parents “pushed” them together, simply because they were both Ghanaians living abroad.

She therefore succumbed to the pressure from both her family and that of her ex-husband's, and got married but later realized that she had entered into a kind of marriage she never wanted to have.
Ms Dumas said upon realizing that she had been pushed into that marriage for the wrong reasons, she decided to back out.
Stressing that "If I had made that mistake of probably going along with this guy I would have been a very unhappy person.”
Nevertheless, the marriage produced a child whom she is so proud of today.

Now a divorcee, Joselyn Dumas expressed the desire and hope to get married again, but this time not under compulsion from anyone or society but of her own free will.
"I want to get married again because for the companionship. Eventually when you are old and your kids are gone away you will want somebody to talk to. You want that friend, a best friend."
Joselyn Dumas may not be the only one who has been faced with such a challenge.
Undoubtedly in our part of a world, a woman is expected to get married when she gets to a certain stage in life and this can be really frustrating.
Pressures from the family and society often push people into regrettable marriages because they were not ready or prepared for it.
But Joselyn advised young women who are yet to get married to never allow society push them into a forced marriage.
