President Akufo-Addo in accordance with section 11 of the Presidential Office Act, 1993 (Act 463), presented the list of presidential staffers to Parliament.
The huge number of workers at the seat of government has led a section of the public to described the number as outrageous and an overburden on the national purse.
Nana Akufo-Addo revealed that 998 people have been employed as staff at the presidency and have been working under him since he became president in 2017.
The list comprises, 9 ministers of state, 27 presidential staffers and aides, 256 junior political appointees and 706 civil servants on attachment at the presidency.
Not forgetting, the 110 ministers working under the president already.
YEN.com.gh takes a look at five names on the 998 list who Ghanaians knew on social media before their current roles at the presidency.
1. Samuel Bryan Buabeng
He was popular for texting into scores of radio political talk shows in support of Nana Addo and in opposition to Mahama on a daily basis prior to election 2016. he further doubled his efforts to make flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo very popular.
2. Nana Hesse Ogyiri
He also worked very hard to promote NPP policies and publicised the activities of the party on social media.
3. Evron Hughes
He was and still central to the NPP's social media strategy, especially where the issues relate to finance. He is very effective for the party on Facebook.
4. Kow Essuman
He is a member of a capable team that manages social media pages for key leaders of the party.
5. Sandra Ewool
She is also the brain behind Nana’s brilliant use of social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter to propagate his messages.
Meanwhile, Director at the Centre for European Studies (CES) of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ransford Gyampo, says some politicians criticizing the controversial 988 workers under the Presidency are being hypocrites.
