Denying the pregnancy - Some of the reasons Ghanaian men give

Per our cultural standards, pregnancies and childbirth are welcome happenings in the life of persons and family. But it is also commonplace to find men who are not willing to take responsibility of pregnancies.

Usually, one would believe that a man who is financially sound would love to take care of a child. This therefore suggests that men without the means are the ones who deny impregnating women.

YEN.com.gh has compiled five popular reasons men give for not accepting a pregnancy, no matter their financial status.

1. "It wasn't me."

This excuse is a classic denial for perhaps any abdication of responsibility. When men use it in denying pregnancy, they are saying that the women involved have been unfaithful.

A woman with multiple partners would obviously struggle to point to who actually impregnated her. And so if a man alleges that a pregnant woman has more than one partner, such a man may get out of taking responsibility.

2. "I used a condom/ You used a contraceptive"

This reason is also not very different from the first one. A contraceptive is supposed to prevent pregnancy.

But the thing most people forget is that no medical invention is 100% efficient. However, men who push out this reason are either not aware of this or may simply just be looking for a way out.

3. "It happened only once."

Some men have been known to suggest that sleeping only once with a woman is not enough for such a woman to get pregnant. As ridiculous as this may sound, it is firmly believed by those who say it.

This is obviously not true. Medical professionals will tell us that when the conditions are right, once is all it takes.

4. "I am impotent."

Although this is very uncommon reason, it is as true as the rest. Most men, even beyond Ghana, would not like to accept that they cannot have children.

But to get out of family duties, men can throw out these excuses a little easier than you think.

5. "I don't care."

Of the five, this reasons seems to be the most callous one. It is not exactly a denial of responsibility but rather denying that anything even happened to cause a pregnancy.

Men who say they do not care would have to psyche themselves to believe that the past did not happen at all.
