5 top jobs in Ghana that pay very little salaries

There are many jobs and many job openings being advertised day in day out to fill certain positions that many people would virtually kill for.

It would be fair to say that some of these jobs pay very good salaries judging by the hectic nature of the job. However, some other jobs, pay very well despite the laxity that comes with it.

Some jobs also have very decorative titles so much so that it would be imagined that salaries for such jobs at the end of the month would also be as fancy as the job titles but that is not the case.

However, some jobs which gain a lot of admiration and attention have very little to offer in terms of remuneration in most cases.

Some of these jobs have requirements and dress codes that need to be strictly followed to avoid any queries or sanctions from autorities.

Other jobs which are quite “unassuming” and would have many people shy away from, tend to offer a lot of cash at the end of the month as compared to some ‘white collar’ or corporate jobs.

Today, YEN.com.gh brings you some elegant jobs in Ghana that pay little salary despite the very elaborate titles, attention and respect that comes with them.

1. Bank Tellers

Even though tellers virtually handle millions of cash on a daily basis, a teller does not always walk home smiling at the end of the month.

Despite their corporate way of dressing and smiling faces and their gestures with customers, all these do not reflect in their take-home salary.

The burden that comes with the job is also so heavy that they sometimes even have to stay very late after normal work hours to balance their sheets yet, their salaries are not directly proportional to their efforts.

2. Acting

The stars we see on TV and in movies all the time do not have fat bank accounts like many of us imagine. If it were the case, many actors and actresses would not bother running side businesses just to survive.

Many actors and actress aside bemoaning the ailing movie industry have also revealed that acting does not pay so much

There has been several occasions where these entertainers complain bitterly about their inadequate fees. The story is however different in Hollywood where stars bag millions after one role in a movie.

3. Modelling

With all the beauty, make-up and catwalks on the runway, a model’s salary is not as beautiful as herself.

Even though they get the attention of the paparazzi at events, attention is not given to their salaries. Many models have now resorted to modelling as a part-time job instead of a full-time profession.

4. Journalism

Despite the fact that all information reaches listeners and viewers through journalists, it would be fair to say that most journalists in Ghana live from hand to mouth.

The story is the same for TV and Radio Show hosts who would have to speak for hours in order to keep viewers and listeners happy and also keep their rating up. One would seriously be mistaken if he or she judges the salary of a journalist by their hectic schedules.

5. Disc Jockeying

Many DJ’s have flooded the entertainment industry. It has however come to be realized that not many of them are enjoying the fruits of their labor.

Though they are seen hanging out with the big names in the entertainment industry, their salaries on the other hand are not that big.

The tremendous amount of time they spend on the turn tables does not turn around into cash for them. They are almost all the time elegantly dressed but do not receive ‘elegant’ salaries.
