NPP doesn't care about me - Yvonne Nelson

NPP doesn't care about me - Yvonne Nelson

Popular actress Yvonne Nelson has stated that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) does not care about her.

Yvonne has often been tagged as an NPP person since she organised a peaceful demonstration in 2015 against the then-NDC government led by John Mahama over the crippling power crisis that was plaguing the country at the time.

Dubbed the 'Dumsor Vigil', the protest march saw many other celebrities join Nelson in what became one of the biggest demonstrations against Mahama's government.

A year after the march, Mahama's government was kicked out of government after a humbling defeat at the hand of Nana Akufo-Addo and his NPP, which had been rumoured to have sponsored Nelson's march.

But appearing on Yvonne Okoro's “Dining With Cooks and Braggarts”, the beautiful actress stated clearly that she does not have that kind of relationship with the NPP as speculated.

According to her, the NPP has probably forgotten about her and her 'Dumsor Vigil'.

"I don't think they even care about me," Nelson lamented.

Touching on whether she was paid for the march or not, the actress explained that she was not paid and that nobody could have even placed a value on what she did.

“I risked my life and career. No one paid me [because] you cannot even place a value on what I did," she said.

Nelson's colleague, John Dumelo, a known supporter of the NDC, who was also on the show, mocked her over her statements saying "had I known is always at last."

Sounding like someone who had regretted the move, Nelson responded to Dumelo saying "oh John, I was just being a voice to the voiceless."

Known to be very close friends for a long time, the friendship of Yvonne and John seemed to be on the verge of collapse at the peak of Nelson's protest against Mahama's government, which had been endorsed by Dumelo.

The two engaged in a banter on Twitter over the subject on several occasions.

It is therefore not surprising that Dumelo feels vindicated by Nelson's statement and decided to mock her.
