There have been constant claims by various sector experts and some aviation specialists who have criticised the government's decision to put up an airport in Cape Coast in the Central Region.
While some of them especially the minority have argued that building an airport in the region is not as important as putting up a fishing habour, others also believe that it is not a good idea to do such a project there.
Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has defended his government's decision to put up an airport in the Central Region for a lot of reasons.
Among several reasons stated by the vice president, he said the airport would drive a lot of growth to the region.
Speaking in an interview as monitored by YEN.com.gh on Peace FM's morning show, Kokrokoo, he said the historical nature of the town, drives a lot of tourists and thus the need for an airport.
According to him, building an airport in a town mostly visited by tourists would create the needed convenience needed to travel to visit these tourist sites which will, in the end, boost the economy.
He added that not only would the airport boost the economy in Cape Coast but also help highlight other sectors of the economy aside tourism.
Bawumia said since Cape Coast is the 4th poorest region in the country, the construction of the airport would drive traffic and give a great boost to the local economy.
In other news, Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that his government led by President Akufo-Addo has significantly reduced the hardship of Ghanaians.
According to him, the government achieved this through the numerous social intervention programmes as well as initiatives introduced by the government.
Dr. Bawumia made this known in an exclusive interview with Peace FM's morning show ''Kokrokoo'', host Kwami Sefa Kayi.
