Speaking in an interview as monitored by YEN.com.gh on Peace FM's morning show, Kokrokoo, he said the historical nature of the town, drives a lot of tourists and thus the need for an airport.

According to him, building an airport in a town mostly visited by tourists would create the needed convenience needed to travel to visit these tourist sites which will, in the end, boost the economy.

He added that not only would the airport boost the economy in Cape Coast but also help highlight other sectors of the economy aside tourism.

Bawumia said since Cape Coast is the 4th poorest region in the country, the construction of the airport would drive traffic and give a great boost to the local economy.
