Ghanaian Couple In US Facing 25 Years To Life In Prison After Beating 5-Year-Old Son To Death

A New York-based Ghanaian couple has been convicted of the beating to death of their five-year-old son.

The convicts, Valerie Owusu and Emmanuel Addae, were found guilty of second-degree murder after killing their son, King Owusu.

They are facing between 25 years and life in prison for their actions, and their sentencing is scheduled for May 1, 2024.

According to the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office, the couple subjected the boy to beatings between March 30 and April 1, 2021.

The child's condition deteriorated over three days until he lost consciousness, but they didn't seek help for him.

They instead took him to a relative's home in Brentwood on April 1, 2021, and abandoned him there.

It was only when the family member returned home and found that the boy had died.

The medical examiner's testimony during the trial revealed the extent of King's injuries, with signs of beatings covering his entire body, ultimately leading to his tragic death.

Ghanaian girl in the UK killed tragically

Elianne Andam, a 15-year-old girl in the UK was stabbed to death by a teenage boy in south London after she rejected flowers from him on September 27, 2023.

Thousands of people trooped to south London for her memorial.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, sent a warning following the killing of a Ghanaian teenager.

The killing of the girl also drew condemnation from UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who also said he was shocked.

Teacher dies under mysterious circumstances

Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported in a separate story that a young pupil-teacher suddenly passed away in the Dormaa Central Municipality of the Bono Region.

The death of Ampong Kyeremeh, 35, threw the town where he taught into a state of mourning.

Reports suggested that Ampong Kyeremeh, a GES-approved teacher, may have taken his own life over his indebtedness.
