Turkey prosecutors seek 15-month jail term for Istanbul mayor
Turkish prosecutors on Friday sought to jail Istanbul's mayor for at least 15 months, which would bar him from politics, over a remark he made after defeating an ally of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in elections, his lawyer said. Prosecutors on Friday demanded Imamoglu be jailed for between 15 months and four years and a month, his lawyer Kemal Polat said.
UN, Russia hold talks on grain, fertiliser exports
United Nations chiefs were holding talks with Russian officials Friday on the Black Sea agreements on exporting grain and fertilisers, eight days before one of the deals is set to expire. The 120-day Black Sea Grain Initiative runs out on November 19, and the United Nations is seeking to renew the agreements for one year.
EU warns of 'difficult months' as eurozone faces recession
The EU warned Friday the eurozone was set to fall into recession this winter as Brussels hiked inflation forecasts for 2022 and 2023 on the back of high energy prices. He warned however that inflation could end up two points higher in 2023 if the EU "fails to prepare" adequately in advance for next winter by filling up its gas stores.

India's top court Friday ordered the release of six people convicted over the assassination of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. Gandhi became India's youngest prime minister after his mother and predecessor Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards in 1984.

Activists have called on football fans attending Iran's matches at the World Cup starting later this month to chant the name of Mahsa Amini, whose death in custody sparked nationwide protests. Masih Alinejad, a New York-based activist originally from Iran who campaigns against the mandatory hijab, also appealed to World Cup fans to chant Amini's name.

A rescue ship carrying 230 migrants docked at the French port of Toulon on Friday amid a blazing row between France and Italy over which country is responsible for them. France had never before allowed a rescue vessel carrying migrants from the Mediterranean to land on its coast, but did so this time because Italy had refused access.

Taiwan truck driver jailed for train crash killing 49
A Taiwanese truck driver was sentenced to nearly eight years in jail on Friday for causing the island's worst rail disaster in decades, which left 49 dead and more than 200 injured. The train driver in that case was sentenced last year to four and a half years in prison for negligent homicide for speeding and other faults.
